Our Second Life Strategy
Toyota Material Handling Europe’s Second Life strategy aims to reduce the ratio of scrapped trucks in the next years. In doing so, we decrease the scale and impact of raw materials production – which has been shown to be responsible for most of the carbon footprint of the production of a new truck. Though only new energy-efficient products are suited to high-intensity applications, we can still employ used or remanufactured trucks for lower-intensity applications or as extra vehicles on standby for use in busier periods. Refurbishment only involves the cabin and engine, not the chassis, meaning fewer raw materials are required than replacing the truck completely.
We have steadily been able to sell more used trucks and reduced the proportion of scrapped units in the Toyota truck parc by three percentage points. At the same time, we have given price-conscious customers the option to buy a quality Toyota truck at a lower price than new.
We recognise that simply supplying you with a used truck is only part of the solution. That is why every Approved Used truck comes with a choice of flexible support packages to give you additional peace of mind. These packages are adaptable to meet the needs of your particular market. In addition, you can choose from a range of support options to specify the solution that best suits your individual requirements.
For certain trucks, we offer a comprehensive approved warranty plan. This way you can have peace of mind - and focus on what really matters: your material handling.

We know that sometimes it’s hard to find exactly what you need. That’s why we offer you the chance to try a used truck before you buy it. You can use the truck in your own fleet for two weeks. If it’s not right for you, you just pay the rental fee for that period. This means you can see if the truck fits your needs – without incurring any risks.

When you buy any Approved Used truck from us, we can offer to exchange the truck for another approved used truck after a trial period with a maximum of 30 days. This gives you added confidence that you’ll find a truck that’s the right fit for your operation.

We hold our used forklifts to the same quality standards as our new machines. We follow a rigorous set of processes to ensure your used truck is in the best possible condition before you receive it.
Our used truck begins its journey with inspection where our classification is done. Here we determine whether the trucks condition is good enough to be refurbished and sold. The battery is put on charging so we can later test it's capacity.
The truck goes on to be washed and uploaded for sale here in the webshop so we can make it available for you online as fast as possible.
We take the used truck to our workshop to make sure it meets all requirements following our high quality. Safety checks on all functions are done: forks, lifting capacity, engines and compression.
The truck moves on to painting where the truck is refreshed or fully repainted, giving it a new fresh look.
Finally, our workshop manager testdrives all the functions and we test the truck's capacity with full load. All signage and decals are controlled and the documentation is attached. Now it's ready to be shipped to you.

Whether you are a one-truck customer or have a large fleet of forklift trucks across multiple sites globally, the result is the same: a lean operation working optimally and using truck and operator time to its fullest potential.
